IndyCar Rescinds Penalties Against Bourdais

The IndyCar Series has withdrawn its $10,000 fine and probation against driver Sebastien Bourdais after accusing him of unsafe driving during a race in Texas.

IndyCar said Wednesday it had rescinded the penalties following an internal review. It did not give a reason for the change.

Sebastien Bourdais was fined $10,000 and placed on probation for the rest of the season Wednesday for unsafe driving during last weekend’s IndyCar race in Texas.

Bourdais was penalized after saying he thought he had positioned himself to prevent Justin Wilson from passing him on Lap 121. When Wilson tried to make the move, the two cars crashed.

Juan Pablo Montoya brought up the idea of how cool he thought green-white-checkered finishes could be for IndyCar only moments after his third-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway.

“No way,” Will Power quickly responded. “Not in IndyCar.”

Except that is exactly what had just happened Saturday night after a late caution led to a restart with two laps left at the 1 1/2-mile, high-banked track.

Carpenter stayed in front of Will Power during a two-lap shootout to win at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night after a late caution night wiped out his huge lead. The victory came two weeks after a late accident took away any chance to win the Indianapolis 500.
