F1: Perez Keeps Austrian GP Grid Penalty After New Hearing

Sergio Perez still has the five-place grid penalty imposed after the crash with Felipe Massa in Canada, despite the FIA holding a new hearing today.

Perez was given a chance to present his case, which was backed up by telemetry from . However the stewards decided to confirm the decision made by their Canadian counterparts.

The FIA could take another look at the Felipe Massa/Sergio Perez incident at the Canadian GP after Force India claimed that it had “new elements” to back up its case.

Perez received a five-place grid penalty for this weekend after the last lap incident.

Sergio Perez and Force India have responded to criticism from Felipe Massa and after the controversial last lap collision between the pair.

Perez was given a five-place grid penalty for Austria, essentially because he appeared to move left just before the incident.

Felipe Massa and have been checked and released from a hospital in Montreal after the two were involved in a heavy crash at the end of Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix.

While battling for fourth place, Massa clipped the right-rear wheel of Perez’s which caused both drivers to veer off track. They were carrying a high rate of speed at the time of the collision and were unable to slow before slamming viciously into the barriers in Turn 1.

Daniel Ricciardo may be coming out of the shadow of his more celebrated Red Bull teammate.

The 24-year-old Australian won the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday to earn his first career Formula One victory, joining four-time defending world champion on the podium and snapping Mercedes’ stranglehold on the circuit this season.

Ricciardo’s win was the first win this year for any driver other than , the pole-sitter and championship leader, and , a three-time champion. But the twin Mercedes Silver Arrows were forced to slow down midway through the race to keep their brakes from overheating, and Ricciardo was able to take advantage.
