SportsCars: Petition Gaining Support For Sean Edwards Championship

Members of the racing community are attempting to honor the memory of Sean Edwards by petitioning the governing body of SuperCup to hold the remaining two races of the 2013 season as “non-points scoring rounds.”

If successful, the initiative would allow Edwards to maintain his lead in the overall points standings and award him the Championship posthumously. Jon Miller, petition organizer, has stated that within the first 36 hours of the petition posting that over 3000 signatures have been gathered.

NGT Motorsport has withdrawn its No. 30 911 GT3 Cup car to honor their driver, Sean Edwards. The 26-year-old native of Great Britain died Tuesday in a private testing accident at Queensland Raceway in Australia.

Edwards shared the wheel of the MOMO-sponsored Porsche with Henrique Cisneros for all but two rounds this year.

The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequil Patrón will honor the memory of driver Sean Edwards at the season-ending Powered by Mazda at Road Atlanta on Oct. 19. Edwards, 26, died Tuesday in an accident during a private driving training session at Queensland Raceway in Australia.

In tribute to Edwards’ memory, a memorial decal has been created for all cars competing in the season finale. The decal design was created from an illustration of Edwards’ helmet by renowned motorsports artist Andy Blackmore.

British driver Sean Edwards was killed Tuesday in a private testing accident in Queensland Raceway in Australia.

The 26-year-old, who was contesting the American Le Mans Series, Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland this year, sustained fatal injuries while in the passenger seat of a Porsche 996 race car during a driving instruction.
