After racing 65 laps under hot and humid conditions, some of the Verizon IndyCar Series drivers looked like they had already put in a full day of work after Sunday’s first race of the Honda Indy Toronto 2 in T.O. That, however, was just the warm-up act because another 65-lap or 80 minute contest – whichever comes first – is still on the agenda.

Sebastien Bourdais claimed his first IndyCar Series victory since winning at Mexico City on November 11, 2007 in Sunday’s opening race. Helio Castroneves of Team Penske finished second and combined with teammate Will Power’s 10th place finish takes a 28-point lead in the championship. Ryan Hunter-Reay, who entered the race just 32 points behind Castroneves, crashed on Lap 39 and finished 21st. That dropped him from third to fourth in the standings and he enters race the second race 64 points behind Castroneves. Simon Pagenaud’s fourth-place finish moves him up to third in the standings, 58 points out of the lead.

Just one year ago, Scott Dixon used Pocono Raceway as the launching pad that propelled him to a third career IndyCar Series title. He entered the 2013 Pocono INDYCAR 400 Fueled by Sunoco seventh in the standings, 92 points out of the lead. He led a 1-2-3 Ganassi Racing sweep at Pocono and then a double-header sweep the following weekend in the Honda “Two in T.O.” Dixon had won three races in just eight days.

Dixon realizes he is going to need something drastic to happen again if he is going to be a viable contender in the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series championship.

LONG POND, Pennsylvania – Andretti Autosport arrives at Pocono International Raceway for Sunday’s Pocono INDYCAR 500 Fueled by Sunoco believing it has some unfinished business to take care of.

It was an all-Andretti front row for last year’s race, as the team owned by Pennsylvania’s own Michael Andretti claimed all three starting positions for one of three races on the schedule that feature a three-abreast start.
