In front of 40,682 fans at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., Chad Reed became the third rider in as many races to capture a 450SX main event win this season.

On a night celebrating past champions of the sport, it was only fitting for Reed – the 2004 and 2008 Supercross Champion – to make a late-race pass on another two-time series Champion James Stewart for the win.

The Champ returned to prominence in Phoenix with a very impressive ride through the field. The gap between Ryan Villopoto and his competitors is not very big right now, but if he starts to get on a roll it won’t be long until he is leaving them scratching their heads.

Each week, The Power Rankings will recognize the movers and shakers in Monster Energy Supercross. Villopoto’s rise to the top last week not only secured his first win of 2014 and the points lead, but also the top spot in this week’s rankings.

Ryan Villopoto has won plenty of races in his storied career – including three championships – but he had never won a race at Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Kawasaki ace changed that Saturday by winning the 20-lap feature in front of a near sellout crowd of 49,834.

Villopoto overcame a slow start – which had him buried as far back as ninth – to lead the final seven laps en route to his 35th career Monster Energy Supercross victory.
