American MotoGP legend Kevin Schwantz knows the feeling of the magic carpet ride that has been Marc Marquez’s breathtaking start to the MotoGP season.

Two wins and two pole positions with a perfect score of 50 points has established a platform for back-to-back world championships.

Dani Pedrosa racked up 88 laps as the three-day Phillip Island tire test began on Monday. The sole Repsol Honda Team rider present, the three-time premier class championship runner-up completed more laps than any other rider present.

Following the tire-related problems of the 2013 Australian Grand Prix, this week’s test features new tires from both Bridgestone (MotoGP) and Dunlop (Moto2). In Pedrosa’s case, the Spaniard started Monday on last year’s tires in order to compare them with the 2014 bike, before conducting short runs (each of a minimum of six laps) as research started with the new experimental tires.

MotoGP: Decision For Marquez To Opt Out Of Australia Test Is “Right Choice”

The manager of Marc Marquez has confirmed that the rider will not go to the Phillip Island test and that the World Champion knows there is a long season ahead – even if he is not 100% fit for the first race.

Emilio Alzamora spoke to motogp.com after it was confirmed that the Repsol Honda rider will not attend the forthcoming test at the Australian track, following a medical check-up on Tuesday on the broken leg sustained in a training accident last week.

Livio Suppo, team principal for Repsol Honda, has provided an update on Marc Marquez’s race for fitness as the World Champion seeks to return to riding as soon as possible.

The MotoGP title holder suffered a broken right fibula during a dirt track training session in Spain last week and as a result will miss this week’s Sepang test.
