The entire world of F1 continues to contemplate the reigning quadruple world champion’s current struggle even to keep up with his new Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo.

Lauda, the Mercedes team chairman, told German television RTL: “He has been very spoiled in the past with many highs and victories, but that performance has gone… He has forgotten how to drive another car.

Four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel isn’t used to being asked to step aside for a teammate. Now it’s happened twice in two races.

Vettel, only months removed from wrapping up his most dominant season in F1, was instructed to allow debutant Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo to pass him midway through Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix as the German’s speed began to fade due to his rapidly degrading tires.

Sebastian Vettel returned to victory lane this week, behind the wheel of the new Infiniti Q50 in a celebrity race in downtown Shanghai.

Chinese movie star Jimmy Lin, snooker player Pan Xiaoting and renowned businessman Yao Jinbo were amongst the names racing Vettel, who emerged victorious in all but one of the five races.

Helmut Marko has hit back at Mercedes, after the German squad this week called on the court of appeal to come down hard on Red Bull.

As Red Bull appealed Daniel Ricciardo’s Melbourne disqualification in Paris on Monday, a lawyer for rival Mercedes argued at length that the FIA should in fact impose “a further sanction,” due to the “flagrant and deliberate” rules breach.

The FIA Court of Appeal has upheld the original decision of the stewards of the Australian GP, which means that Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo have now definitively lost their second place.

The court, which sat on Monday, rejected the arguments from RBR about the unreliability of the Gill fuel flow sensor in the RB10.
