MotoGP: Bautista And Team Pleased With Qatar Effort Despite Crash

Although Alvaro Bautista and crew chief Antonio Jimenez took no points home from the Qatar Grand Prix, both head to Austin with optimism after the Spaniard came within two laps of a Round 1 podium finish.

Bautista looked strong across the entire Losail weekend, qualifying an impressive second on the grid with the Factory Option Honda satellite bike. He would find himself challenging for a top three placing for the entire race, until losing control at Turn 2 on the 21st and penultimate lap of the Grand Prix.

After the brilliant form which saw him win five of the last seven races of last season, Jorge Lorenzo had a disastrous start to his 2014 campaign on Sunday in Qatar.

The 2010 and 2012 MotoGP™ World Champion crashed out of the opening Grand Prix of the year on the first lap, having made a trademark stunning start from fifth on the grid to grab the hole-shot into Turn 1.

Marc Marquez took his amazing career to a new level with a dazzling victory over Valentino Rossi in the Qatar Grand Prix to set a platform for his MotoGP championship defense.

It was a win that may define his 2014 season, coming just six weeks after a broken leg with a performance that overshadowed Rossi’s stunning ride from tenth on the grid.

World Champion Marc Marquez started his MotoGP title defense with a victory in Qatar, beating Valentino Rossi in a close battle, with Dani Pedrosa coming home third.

Repsol Honda’s 21-year-old rider produced a gritty performance to take maximum points despite breaking his leg in preseason and missing the last two MotoGP tests.

Pramac Racing’s Andrea Iannone may have qualified 11th on the grid for the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar but he was the pace setter in Warm-Up at Losail on Sunday evening.

The Italian MotoGP sophomore was 0.054s quicker than his closest rival Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing), topping the timesheet with a 1:55.657s lap as night descended on the track ahead of tonight’s racing.
