SportsCars: NGT Withdraws Porsche to Honor Sean Edwards

NGT Motorsport has withdrawn its No. 30 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car to honor their driver, Sean Edwards. The 26-year-old native of Great Britain died Tuesday in a private testing accident at Queensland Raceway in Australia.

Edwards shared the wheel of the MOMO-sponsored Porsche with Henrique Cisneros for all but two rounds this year.

British driver Sean Edwards was killed Tuesday in a private testing accident in Queensland Raceway in Australia.

The 26-year-old, who was contesting the American Le Mans Series, Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland this year, sustained fatal injuries while in the passenger seat of a Porsche 996 race car during a driving instruction.

Porsche has been in the headlines as of late, with the announcement that it will field a two-car full factory effort in next year’s Tudor United SportsCar Championship, while also providing more than a dozen cars to customers competing in the new GT Daytona category in 2014.

SPEED recently caught up with Porsche Motorsport North America President Jens Walther for more insight into the new 911 GT America, which will become the German manufacturer’s new customer car in America. Up to 15 cars of the GTD-specific model are expected to be produced for next year.
