F1: Former Engine Supplier Brian Hart Dies At Age 77

A brilliant engineer who worked miracles with limited funding, he was also a great character who was never afraid to speak his mind.

Trained as an aeronautical engineer, Hart was a successful driver in Formula Junior, F3 and latter in F2, where he was a regular for many years. He won at Enna in 1964, and finished 9th in the first European Championship in 1967 and 12th in 1968. He scored a famous non-championship win at Hockenheim in 1969.

With the Ford-powered teams packing up early, Corvette DPs led the way in the third and final day of testing at the Roar Before the Rolex 24.

A 1:39.748 lap time by the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona entry of Richard Westbrook was the quickest on Sunday but it was Christian Fittipaldi’s 1:38.630 lap in the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP, set in Friday’s opening session, that stood as the best of the weekend.

Dakar Rally: Sousa, Barreda Bort Lead After First Stage

Carlos Sousa of Portugal and Joan Barreda Bort of Spain led the Dakar Rally after Sunday’s first stage in Argentina.

Sousa topped the car division, 11 seconds ahead of Orlando Terranova of Argentina and 47 in front of Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar. Two of the pre-race favorites were just behind — Carlos Sainz of Spain was in fifth place and 11-time champion Stephane Peterhansel of France was sixth.

Avintia Racing and Frenchman Mike Di Meglio have reached an agreement for the 2008 125cc World Champion to ride in MotoGP in 2014.

Moving up from the Moto2 category after recovering from injury in the second half of 2013, Di Meglio will be teammate to Hector Barbera in the premier class this year.
