The FIA has confirmed its earlier plan to introduce cost control and cost reduction regulations for 2015, following a meeting on Wednesday.

The regulations will be presented to the World Motor Sport Council in June and will come into force for the start of next season.

An FIA statement said: “The FIA president reaffirmed to members of the WMSC the FIA’s intention to assure a healthy, affordable and spectacular FIA Formula One World Championship for the long-term future. At a meeting of the F1 Strategy Group yesterday, chaired by the FIA president, and attended by Bernie Ecclestone and the teams, it was unanimously agreed that cost reduction and cost control regulations will be presented to the WMSC in June 2014 for introduction in January 2015.”

Stoffel Vandoorne has been named as McLaren’s reserve driver, and the Belgian will also run a season of GP2 with ART.

Vandoorne is McLaren’s second talented young protege, and lost out to colleague Kevin Magnussen in the fight for the Renault 3.5 title last year. He’s clearly being lined up for a promotion to a race seat if an opportunity arises.

SX: The Holeshot — 23 Takeaways From Anaheim 2

The 40th Anniversary of Monster Energy Supercross was expected to be a celebration of history and honoring the men who shaped the sport into what it is today. At the end of 20 laps in the 450SX Class main event, the entire industry couldn’t help but feel nostalgic after Chad Reed emerged victorious, passing and fending off his longtime rival James Stewart to do so.

Each week, The Holeshot will provide 23 takeaways – a full starting gate – from the most recent round of action.

1. I knew Anaheim 2 would be critical to Reed’s hopes in 2014, but I think that could be an understatement based on how he won that race. The veteran lurked in the back of the lead pack for nearly the entire main event and put on a late charge in the closing laps to move into the lead and run away.
