As one of the two candidates for the title this weekend, Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo said the pressure was on Friday’s fastest rider and championship leader Marc Marquez after free practice.
The World Champion was third fastest overall on day one, with only a 0.158s gap to pace man and title rival Marquez, and with Dani Pedrosa sandwiched between them.
Although Lorenzo feels the pressure is on Marquez rather than himself this weekend, he will be trying everything he can to beat his compatriot in Valencia and he knows that he must improve his pace in order to do so.
He stated, “This afternoon was very windy so it was very difficult to make the same lap time of the morning but we managed to improve it a little bit. We adjusted the bike a little electronically and also the suspension. We are quite close to everyone and ready to keep working tomorrow.”
On the overall situation Lorenzo added, “I feel cool. I don’t have any pressure. I don’t have anything to lose, second place in the championship is done, so all I can try to do is win the race. I’ll try to win the championship by waiting for Marc’s result. Today we were third, very close to the Hondas but they are very strong.”
“We need to improve the bike to try and be as fast as them. We need to improve the electronics, the acceleration, so we’ll have to adjust the bike to go faster.”Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Marquez, MotoGP, Valencia GP
