Mercedes may very well be forced to remove its ‘FRIC’ (front-to-rear interconnected) suspension system from its car before next weekend’s German Grand Prix.

With several teams reportedly expected to lodge protests, only an unlikely unanimous vote from the teams may now save the ‘FRIC’ suspensions from being banned before the next race.

The deal for Lotus to use power units from 2015 will be confirmed in the next few days. At one stage an announcement was scheduled for yesterday, but it could now come at the start of next week.

The new arrangement sees Lotus take over the supply made available by McLaren’s move to Honda next season.

Lotus could be set to switch from to power in 2015, well-placed sources have confirmed.

Inevitably there has been some tension between Renault and Lotus this season. Lotus has been late with payments to the French manufacturer over the past couple of seasons, while the reliability and performance problems associated with the power unit have proved frustrating to the team.

With looking certain to run away with the constructors’ championship, the promising battle between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg should provide an intriguing backdrop for the rest of the season.

Rosberg is only three points behind Hamilton, the championship leader, who has won the past four races. The two go back a long way, to their days karting together. But with so little separating them in the title race, their friendship looks set to be tested.
