Three unquestionable talents in their own rights. Luis Salom, Maverick Viñales and Alex Rins have ensured an extremely closely-fought Moto3 title battle in 2013. Curiously, each one will have arrived at next weekend’s Valencia title-decider in their own imitable way.

The plot:

Something that happens rarely in the World Championship. Three riders, three completely different styles and three different methods of overcoming adversity. So it’s three riders, five points between them and one race to go.

Crash Happy: Moto2, Moto3 Riders Slam Hard At Motegi

Sunday action at the tricky Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Motegi, Japan was jumpstarted by a wild Moto3 race, which saw major drama unfold on the very first lap.

While racing for a spot in the top-five, championship leader Luis Salom was caught up in a wreck triggered by Isaac Viñales. Viñales attempted a pass on the inside of Salom in the V Corner when Viñales lost control and high-sided.

Both riders would be OK, but were no longer a factor in the race. Salom will look to bounce back at the finale in Valencia, where he enters with a two-point leader over Maverick Viñales.

All on-track activity was cancelled Friday at Twin Ring Motegi due to poor weather conditions, but that didn’t put a damper on the festivities happening in the MotoGP paddock.

The Japanese crowd, which is known for being dedicated and loyal, decided to stick around despite the lengthy delay. Several riders – including Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa – rewarded them by signing autographs and taking photographs.

They quickly turned a dreary day in to one filled with life and laughter. It was truly an outstanding moment, and is reflected in many of the photographs circling the garage.
