Sports Cars: Kansas Added to 2014 United SportsCar Schedule

announced Friday a shakeup in the schedule for next year’s , which includes the addition of a 13th event at Kansas Speedway and other changes in the Prototype Challenge calendar.

With expected oversized grids, the PC class has been reduced to 10-round schedule, with the elimination of the Detroit and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park events in favor of a standalone race at Kanas Speedway on June 7.

YouTube sensation, and current Daytona Prototype championship leader Taylor, fresh off victory in last weekend’s SFP Grand Prix at , teamed up with brother Ricky and fellow GRAND-AM drivers , and for production of their third music video, filmed in the Kansas paddock.

Featuring the ‘90s hit single “The Right Kind of Love” from Jeremy Jordan, the video portrays 22-year-old Taylor’s affection towards Continental tires, the series-wide tire partner of the Rolex Series. Included are some hilarious scenes from the rest of the gang, in what could be described as one of the most entertaining motorsports-related music videos of the summer.

Taylor edged out a hard-charging Scott Pruett for the win in ’s first visit to the 2.37-mile roval, in what turned out to be a thrilling duel between the two powerhouse Daytona Prototype squads.

Popow And Dalziel Hold Slim Point Lead Entering Final Stretch

Alex Popow and Ryan Dalziel, drivers of the No. 2 Soloson BMW/Riley, saw their lead in the Daytona Prototype championship trimmed to four points in last weekend’s VISITFLORIDA.com 250 at Road America. Now, it’s a first-time visit to for Saturday evening’s SFP Grand Prix, and the Starworks Motorsport drivers are trying to hold on to the lead with only three races remaining in the 2013 Rolex Sports Car Series season.

Popow and Dalziel, who won the Brickyard Grand Prix, lead GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing drivers and for the championship lead, 246-242, while three other sets of drivers are within 14 points of the top spot.

Dalziel and Popow entered Road America leading by 10 points, but became the third points leader to experience misfortune when their BMW/Riley suffered mechanical problems exiting pit road. Dalziel shut off the car and pulled over rather than risk further damage, resulting in a 14th-place finish.

All was not lost for the team, though, as first-year DP driver Brendon Hartley and Scott Mayer took a popular victory in the No. 8 Starworks BMW/Riley.

Both Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and won two races and led the standings earlier this year, before back-to-back problems sent both teams tumbling out of the lead.
Ganassi’s Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas won two races earlier this season at Daytona and Road Atlanta in quest of a fourth consecutive title, but incidents at Detroit and Mid-Ohio dropped them in the standings. They finished second at Indianapolis and fourth at Road America in the No. 01 Telcel/TELMEX BMW/Riley and are now sixth in the standings, 14 behind the leaders.

Tagliani To Sub For Papis At Kansas

Alex Tagliani will join AIM Motorsport for next weekend's Kansas round, with Kenny Wilden, not pictured, subbing for Max Papis this weekend at Road America.

Top Canadian Indy Car and road racing star will partner reigning Rolex Sports Car Series GT co-Champion Jeff Segal in the No. 61 R.Ferri/AIM Autosport Racing with Ferrari 458 Italia at next weekend’s inaugural Road Racing SFP Grand Prix at , August 16 – 17.

Tagliani will be filling in for regular No. 61R.Ferri/AIM Ferrari driver who was previously committed to the NASCAR Nationwide race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The announcement aligns Quebec-native Tagliani, one of Canada’s top racing stars of the last two decades, with fellow Canadians Remo Ferri and AIM Autosport team principals Ian Willis and Andrew Bordin for the first time.
