Aleshin Uninjured After Montoya’s Car Lands On Top Of Him (VIDEO)

The Series doubleheader weekend in has been filled with drama and it continued on Sunday at the start of Race 2. When a rain shower hit the circuit 12 laps into the feature, a massive pileup occurred at Turn 8.

The slick track caused to slam into the tire barrier as the field barreled into the turn behind him. Several drivers managed to miss the Colombian, but that wasn’t the case for hometown hero and rookie .

IndyCar: Montoya Feeling Energized After Pocono Triumph

For Juan Pablo Montoya, he’s got “friends in all the right places” and he heard from many of them after his victory in last Sunday’s race at Pocono. The driver from Colombia received lots of congratulatory messages from his former NASCAR Sprint Cup competitors including three-time champion Tony Stewart.

“Stewart sent me a Facebook message that was kind of funny,” Montoya said proudly Friday at Speedway as he prepares for Saturday night’s Corn Indy 300.

Montoya Wins First IndyCar Race In 14 Years

Juan Pablo Montoya has won the race at Pocono Raceway, the highlight of a triumphant return to open wheel racing after seven years in NASCAR.

was second to make it a 1-2 finish Sunday for team owner Roger Penske. Montoya won for the first time in the CART/IndyCar Series since 2000 and had his first major victory since he won a road course race at Watkins Glen in NASCAR in 2010.

With double points awarded in the 500-mile races, Castroneves moved into a tie for the points lead with Team Penske teammate . Power was hit with a blocking penalty on Castroneves late in the race and had to serve a drive through penalty, costing him a shot at racing for the win. He finished 10th.

IndyCar: Penske’s Montoya On Pole For 500-Mile Race At Pocono

In open wheel or a stock car, Juan Pablo Montoya knows how to top the speed chart at Pocono Raceway.

Driving for Team Penske in his open-wheel return after seven years in NASCAR, the Colombian knocked off Penske teammate on the final qualifying run Saturday.

Montoya had a two-lap average of 223.871 mph for both a track record and his first career IndyCar pole.

IndyCar: ‘We are going in the right direction,’ says Montoya

HOUSTON – When announced last October that he would return to IndyCar racing for the first time since he left CART in 2000, there was much expected from the 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner. After all, he was joining Team Penske – the “Gold Standard” of this form of racing.

But 14 years have passed since Montoya was the youthful driver from Colombia that conquered CART and left for Formula One in 2001. He would remain in F1 until midway through the 2006 season when he made a sudden career change to drive for team owner Chip Ganassi in NASCAR.
