A week before ′s brave new era begins in earnest, not everyone is excited.

At the Geneva motor show, former Formula 1 driver Jean Alesi admitted he is no fan of the ‘greener’ era of energy-recovery boosted cars.

“The driver is being completely overshadowed by the new technology,” said the Frenchman. “It is a challenge for the engineer but not the driver. We have entered an era in which only the tools count.

FIA president and former Ferrari boss Jean Todt has returned to the Grenoble hospital bedside of his friend Michael Schumacher.

The seven-time world champion has been in a coma for almost a full month, raising doubts he will ever recover from his late December skiing accident.

Blick newspaper reports that journalists, particularly those in Germany, have been warned away from that sort of speculation with a letter from lawyers representing the great German’s family.

Not everyone in is opposed to the sport’s new double points innovation.

In fact, even the president of Formula 1′s governing is not sure what all the fuss is about, as speculation increases that the rule could even be repealed.

“Well, so much is said, but really it’s not such a dramatic change,” Jean Todt told the Spanish sports daily AS.

International publications have described the highly controversial decision to award double-points in the 2014 season finale as “strange” (Bild) and “crazy” (La Gazzetta dello Sport).

And Reuters correspondent Alan Baldwin said F1 fans expressed “dismay and anger on social media,” while former driver Taki Inoue described the change as “something like a Nintendo Mario game.
