When the Verizon IndyCar Series arrives at the fourth largest city in North America for its annual street race in Toronto, James Hinchcliffe of nearby Oakville, Ontario is hailed as a conquering hero. His face is displayed on billboards and magazines throughout the city and his Honda commercial runs often on Canadian television.

Unfortunately for the “Mayor of Hinchtown,” he has been able to conquer his hometown race.

In six IndyCar Series races at Toronto, Hinchcliffe has never finished better than eighth. He tied his career-high Toronto finish in Sunday’s first race and had hopes of improving that in Sunday’s second race.

Aleshin Uninjured After Montoya’s Car Lands On Top Of Him (VIDEO)

The IndyCar Series doubleheader weekend in Toronto has been filled with drama and it continued on Sunday at the start of Race 2. When a rain shower hit the circuit 12 laps into the feature, a massive pileup occurred at Turn 8.

The slick track caused Juan Pablo Montoya to slam into the tire barrier as the field barreled into the turn behind him. Several drivers managed to miss the Colombian, but that wasn’t the case for hometown hero James Hinchcliffe and rookie Mikhail Aleshin.

It’s a wide-open field in Sunday’s 98th Indianapolis 500. So wide open, in fact, that it’s hard to see a clear-cut favorite in the field of 33 drivers that will celebrate at the end of the race in the most famous Victory Lane in all of racing.

It’s also a race loaded with storylines.

Tony Kanaan is the defending winner of the Indianapolis 500 and he starts way back in 16th place after struggling in qualifying with his Target/Chip Ganassi Racing Dallara/Chevrolet. But Kanaan’s confidence on race day will be high after he was the fastest driver in the final practice session known as Carb Day on Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
