UPDATE: (Sept. 23) Watch Video of Webber on board with Alonso from track CCTV
Webber’s Red Bull failed on the last lap, leaving him stranded in Turn 7. Fernando Alonso stopped on-track to allow the Australian to climb aboard his Ferrari, and kindly gave him a ride back to the pits.
The stewards, however, were not pleased.
Immediately after the race, they ruled that Webber had breached the sporting regulations by “entering the track without the marshal’s permission between the commencement of the formation lap and the time when the last car enters parc ferme.”
Because it’s Webber’s third reprimand of the year, he receives an automatic 10-place grid penalty for the next race in Korea.
Webber received his first reprimand of the season in Bahrain for colliding with Nico Rosberg. His second came in Canada when he failed to slow sufficiently for yellow caution flags.
Alonso, who finished second in the race, also received a reprimand.
The stewards said the Spaniard “drove the car in a manner which could be deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers or any other person.
“In this case, two cars had to take avoiding action as a result.”
A video replay provided by the FIA showed Alonso coming to a stop in Turn 7 after being flagged down by Webber.
Both Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were forced to take evasive action to avoid hitting Alonso’s stationary Ferrari.Fernando Alonso, Formula 1, Korean Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber, Nico Rosberg, Singapore, Singapore Grand Prix
