Martin Whitmarsh says he’s confident that McLaren will bounce back in 2014 after making an early switch of focus to the new car – which in turn made it harder for the team to improve the form of the disappointing MP4-28.
“We’re working hard, is the answer,” said Whitmarsh when asked about turning things around for 2014. “We’ve given our drivers and our race team a tough time, because we’ve been focused on next year, and that’s meant that we’ve had to in the field work very hard on Fridays to do what we can, and fight our way through.
“I think we’ve made the right decisions. It felt painful on occasions this year, in the latter part of it as we are. But we’ve learned a bit and improvised and we’ve made some progress. I think we’re feeling confident that we’ll return to where we ought to be next year.”Formula 1, Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren
