With Williams shining in winter testing Felipe Massa was in upbeat mood at today’s launch of the team’s new livery.
Williams vied with Mercedes for top spot on both speed and mileage completed, and the team looks set to be a pacesetter this year.
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes topped the times on the final day of winter testing in Bahrain, indicating once again that the W05 is likely to set the pace in Melbourne in a fortnight’s time.
Eight red flags reflected another day of mechanical problems across the field, although all bar Lotus and McLaren still managed to complete a respectable number of laps. Indeed Sauber impressed as Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutierrez totaled a remarkable 177 laps, making up for time lost yesterday.
Williams has finally confirmed the arrival of Felipe Massa’s long time Ferrari race engineer, Rob Smedley.
He will take up the newly created role of head of vehicle performance.
Williams says that he will “strengthen the trackside team whilst also supporting the development work back at the factory to help bring more performance to the car throughout the season.”
