Nico Rosberg says he’s learned lessons from the Bahrain GP, where he fought closely with team mate Lewis Hamilton, but ultimately lost out in their wheel-to-wheel fight.

“I’ve reviewed Bahrain, and just tried to learn from it, picked out the good things from it, what can I do better,” said Rosberg. “The key lesson from Bahrain – for sure I learned about battling, definitely a lot about that, because it’s not so common, to have many corner battles and things like that. That was very good experience, I definitely picked up many things there.”

After a break of just one day the Formula 1 teams were back in action in Bahrain for the start of the first of four two-day in-season tests.

All the teams ran their regular race drivers today with the exceptions of Sauber, who used Sergey Sirotkin, and Caterham, who ran Robin Frijns. All teams have to devote one of their eight days to Pirelli, and today it was the turn of Caterham. For everyone else it was a valuable chance to catch their breath between races, try new parts, and work on setups.

Daniel Ricciardo did a particularly impressive job to move up from 13th place as both drivers were able to run quickly in the final stint, on the soft tires.

Hamilton snuck past the pole man at the start, and survived a series of attacks from Rosberg, who was handed a second chance when the safety car cut the gap before the final sprint to the flag.
