MotoGP: Tire wear a hot topic entering this weekend’s Argentine GP

Argentina is the next stop for the 2014 MotoGP™ World Championship as the revamped Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo hosts round three of the season.

The 4.8km circuit is characterized by numerous fast, long-radius corners that are expected to result in one of the highest average speeds of the year. High speeds, hard braking zones and high camber angles of some corners results in this circuit being one of the more demanding for tires.

MotoGP: Pirro to substitute for Crutchlow in Argentina

Cal Crutchlow will not be fit in time to represent Ducati Team in Argentina as he continues to recover from his accident in Austin and subsequent surgery.

After Crutchlow’s crash in the race at Austin, the British rider had initially been diagnosed with a dislocated right little finger, but further checks at a specialized centre in San Diego revealed that he had also suffered a tiny fracture of the finger and as a result it was decided that he should undergo a small operation to insert a stabilizing pin.

MotoGP: Bridgestone Reflects On Results From Austin Race

After the second staging of the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas at the state-of-the-art track in Austin, Bridgestone have reviewed the weekend from a tire perspective, after another busy event for the premier class tire supplier.

Track conditions for the race at the Circuit of The Americas were dry, although much cooler than the practice and qualifying sessions. A peak track temperature of just 33°C was recorded during the 21-lap race. Masao Azuma, Chief Engineer, Bridgestone Motorsport Tire Development Department, reviewed the weekend, as follows:

The Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas proved to be difficult affair for the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team.

Indeed it was a weekend to forget for 2010 and 2012 MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo. Starting from fifth on the grid he made a jump start at the beginning of the race and received a ride-through penalty as a result.

MotoGP qualifying at the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas saw Marc Marquez clinch pole with a new record lap of COTA (2:02.886), with Dani Pedrosa and Stefan Bradl joining him on the front row.

Marquez is quick wherever he rides but he appears to specifically enjoy the state-of-the-art Austin track where round two of the season is taking place and he secured his 11th premier class pole position by 0.289s from Repsol Honda teammate Pedrosa – having dominated all weekend so far.
