Jorge Lorenzo knew he had just one chance to keep his slim world championship hopes alive.
The result was a daring last corner overtake to win the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and halt, at least momentarily, the momentum of rookie ace Marc Marquez.
Lorenzo’s Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi hailed the win as “incredible” but also admitted that it be “still difficult” for Lorenzo to retain his title.
The win came on the back of Lorenzo’s bold race strategy of quick starts and then backing his front-running pace to try and gap his Honda rivals Marquez and Dani Pedrosa.
The fast, flowing corners of Silverstone gave Lorenzo his crucial advantage with the Yamaha M1 although he had not planned on leaving his winning move until the final corner.
