On Sunday at the Circuit of the Americas, Andrea Dovizioso overcame the effects of the flu and a fourth-row starting position to battle his way to Ducati’s first MotoGP podium position since Valentino Rossi finished as runner-up at Misano in 2012.

Dovizioso’s heroic effort continued the general feeling that Ducati’s fortunes in motorcycling’s premier category are finally on the rise following several embarrassing seasons that tainted multiple legacies and resulted in a complete overhaul of the program.

Marc Marquez made the Grand Prix of the Americas look like a breezy Sunday ride.

The reigning MotoGP World Champion from Spain cruised to his second win of the season, defending his title in the race where he claimed his first career victory.

And the 21-year-old did it with ease, starting from pole position and leading the entire way.

MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez was fastest in both Friday free practice sessions at the Circuit of the Americas, ending FP2 a considerable 1.005s margin quicker than Andrea Dovizioso, whilst Dani Pedrosa was third best.

Marquez set a best time of 2:03.490s to lead the way at the state-of-the-art track in Texas where he took his first premier class victory in 2013 and on Saturday he will be a clear favorite to repeat his pole position from last year. Indeed Marquez set his best Friday time on a hard tire and was less than 0.5s from his own pole record set on a medium tire 12 months ago.

He has never won a grand prix in ten years of trying but Aleix Espargaro is the man of the moment in MotoGP.

World championships? Zero against the name of Espargaro, now 24.

Yet Espargaro continued to dismantle the reputations of the superstars of MotoGP – Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez amongst them – in the build-up to Sunday’s Qatar Grand Prix.

The FP2 practice for the MotoGP riders at the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar saw Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) on top again, with Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) and Alvaro Baustista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini) two and three.

Espargaro’s 1:54.989 best time was 0.2s better than he went in FP1 and was 0.3s quicker than his closest rival in this session as Dovizioso pushed hard on the GP14 in second.
