Pastor Maldonado is looking forward to a major power boost at Hockenheim next weekend.

The 2012 Spanish Grand Prix winner, who has had a dire campaign since switching from Williams to Lotus over the winter, has yet to score a solitary point this year as the Enstone-based team grapple with poor pace and reliability.

But things could be about to get better.

Even though he hasn’t won a race since the 2013 Indianapolis 500, Tony Kanaan has become a force again in the Verizon IndyCar Series.

In the past two races over a seven-day period Kanaan has led a total of 325 laps including 247 in Saturday’s night’s 300-lap race at Iowa Speedway. Despite those numbers as the dominant car in each race, Kanaan finished 11th at Pocono on July 6 and finished third at Iowa after race winner Ryan Hunter-Reay and second-place finisher Josef Newgarden blew past him on fresh tires.

There’s been drama in the build up to this afternoon’s Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, as the Chip Gansssi Racing Riley-Ford has suffered a major setback in today’s race due to an accident on the reconnoissance lap.

Memo Rojas was at the wheel of the No. 01 Telmex-sponsored DP when he lost control in Turn 2 on a damp circuit and made heavy impact with the barriers.

The Mexican driver was evaluated and released from the infield medical center but the car sustained considerable damage to the front, rear and left side.

One of the holy grails of the collector car world and possibly one of the world’s most valuable Porsches extant will be offered for sale at the Gooding & Company auction in Pebble Beach, Calif., next month (Aug. 17-18).

The 1969 917K is probably the most desirable version of one of Porsche’s mightiest competition cars. The reliable and powerful flat-12 engine, combined with lightweight aerodynamic coupe bodywork, was tailor made for endurance races like The 24 Hours of Le Mans. Picking up where the Ford GT40 left off (and also sponsored by Gulf Oil in the iconic light blue and orange livery), the 917K helped show the door to Ferrari in endurance racing, leaving them to concentrate on Formula One, where they remain today.
