Nico Rosberg logged his second win of 2013 after a superb performance at Silverstone – but it was only confirmed after he escaped with a reprimand for not making a “significant reduction in speed” under double waved yellow flags.

Frustrated rivals pointed out that the German logged a purple sector – the fastest of the race to date – when the flags were shown.

Nevertheless it was a canny drive by Rosberg, who ran third early on and benefited from Lewis Hamilton’s tire failure and Sebastian Vettel’s gearbox breakage.

After over three decades of hosting the world’s fastest riders, New England’s legendary Moto-X 338 facility hosted its final round of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, on Saturday. A massive crowd was on hand as the 2013 season reached the halfway point with the sixth round of the championship at the 35th Annual ChaplinKawasaki.com Moto-X 338 National.

After a pair of grueling 450 Class motos on one of the world’s most demanding circuits, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey secured his second straight overall victory following 1-2 moto results, gaining valuable ground in the championship standings. In the 250 Class, GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac put forth one of his best outings of the season across each moto to also carry 1-2 moto finishes to his second overall win of the season.

Iowa IndyCar Musings

Lots of things to ponder after Sunday’s Hinchtown Beatdown in Iowa.

*** First and foremost should be when and how to run the most exciting oval on the IZOD IndyCar schedule.

Iowa Speedway has always drawn big crowds when the IndyCar race was held on Saturday night but Sunday’s turnout was disappointing (half full) to say the least. Yes, it rained hard Sunday morning and that certainly didn’t help the walk-up but everything about a night race is better.

Hello open-wheel types and thanks for all your questions. I intend to answer your questions every week during the season, so just email me at openwheelmailbag@gmail.com. Don’t feel left out if I didn’t directly respond. I appreciate your interest and passion.

Q: What is the status of the number “99″ in IndyCar? Is it officially retired? If not, and Hinch finishes the season strong, or even wins the championship, we need to start a petition so he can run the number. He has proven that he is worthy of it.

Also, what is to become of the Mailbag and the other writings of you and Mr. Pruett?

Reigning 450 Class Champion Ryan Dungey added a second overall victory to the season last round in Maryland, but the flip-flopped moto score of (1-2) with Ryan Villopoto produced a blank draw as far as series points are concerned. Heading into this Saturday’s Chaplin Kawasaki Moto-X 338 National on June 29, Villopoto remains sixteen points ahead of Dungey, as the two former champions go head-to-head at the final Lucas Oil Pro Motocross National in Southwick, Mass.

Red Bull KTM’s Dungey remains the only rider to finish atop the podium in every moto of the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. In fact, Dungey has only placed third one time this season-at Round 3-where he’s otherwise finished first or second place in every moto. As a two-time winner of the 450 Class at Moto-X 338, Dungey looks to secure his third career win at the historic sand track.
